HINTS & TIPS
New Lighting Regulations for Residential Structures
From 1 May 2011, the Building Code of Australia regulations for lighting in residential structures changed. A Certificate of Occupancy cannot be granted unless the building is complaint. This requirement applies to all residential structures the development of which was approved from 1 May 2011.
The changes state that all new Class I Buildings (houses, apartments, town houses and units) will be restricted to only 5 watts per square metre for lighting. This means that specifying the right lighting throughout the home is more important than ever. Experienced lighting consultants are available to assist as required.
Working with Marble
When you use marble tiles on your floor or elect to have a marble waterfall kitchen bench, it is essential that there is a definitive gap between the marble surface and timber flooring.
The reason for this is that the marble is a very porous material and will simply soak up the timber stain if there is any contact whatsoever with the flooring when it is being stained. This will result in unsightly smudges on the marble surface.
